Project overview
The residential complex is located in Thermi Thessaloniki. It consists of three identical buildings in which there are a total of six maisonettes and six apartments. The basic principles of energy design and systems were followed to create sustainable and autonomous homes, which exploit natural resources as much as possible to achieve minimum energy consumption. The buildings follow the natural slope of the ground and occupy the north, leaving the south-east side free for the creation of the necessary accesses and passages. Due to the large slope of the plot and in order for the buildings to integrate more smoothly into the surrounding space, three “squares” are formed, one behind each building. Each ramp leads to a square, with four parking spaces on either side.
Project history
The main concern of the design was that each residence has large openings towards the view of the area, the future park, and towards the view of the sea, with an orientation such that the maximum utilization of natural lighting and sun exposure is made.In the complex, the presence of greenery is also important. The houses located on the ground floor have private gardens (private courtyards) around the perimeter in a “c” shape, in which it is recommended to plant local vegetation. At the same time, all the buildings have the trademark of the project, non-passable (only passable for maintenance reasons) curved planted roofs, which act as insulation for the houses and help create a microclimate. The curve of the roofs, which accommodates the attic of the apartments below, is a design result of the effort to make maximum use of the square meters in all the buildings and to achieve the full exploitation of the height. Led strip runs across the roof on the two curved sides, accentuating the curve. A key feature of the complex are the curved planted roofs, which act as insulation for the houses and help create a microclimate.
