The restoration began with the client’s vision to revive the original structure while meeting modern needs. Initial demolitions removed poor-quality additions, restoring the house’s original form, enlarging the courtyard and allowing sunlight to reach the foyer-heliakos and adjacent rooms. The house was extended linearly to the courtyard’s end ensuring bioclimatic efficiency and natural cooling from the yard’s trees, soil and pool. An expansion joint was designed for structural independence, highlighted by a niche and color contrast. Interior renovations included tones of gypsum plaster and lime on the walls, concrete floors and a plywood kitchen and staircase. A bathroom with an excavated bathtub and green tones blends indoor and outdoor spaces. Reflecting Limassol’s historical use of vivid colors, a reddish hue was chosen for the new structures, inspired by traditional tiled roofs. The project revitalized the house, providing a functional home and positively impacting the community.
