Project overview
An architectural study for the adaptive reuse and renovation of an existing office building in Omonoia, Athens. The building retains its original use, with shops on the ground floor and offices on the upper floors, fully adapted to the requirements of the modern era. The project claims to modernize and upgrade functionally, aesthetically, and energetically the existing building. Important driving force was to be financially sustainable and viable. The new shell – ‘the wings’ – an interpretation of the existing morphology, creates a contemporary, sharp, and future-proof landmark building.
Project history
The client, recognizing the strategic location at Omonoia and the building’s potential, aimed to revitalize the property to meet modern standards while enhancing its economic viability. The goal was to transform the outdated office building into a contemporary, energy-efficient, and aesthetically pleasing space that would attract high-profile tenants and retail businesses. The impact on the client is pluralistic. They are provided with a landmark building and an enhanced work environment with modern and flexible office spaces to be leased to businesses ensuring their boosted corporate image. Due to the energy-efficient design there are many financial benefits such as reduced operational costs and increased property value. In terms of community, ‘The Wings’ contribute to the revitalization of the Omonoia area, promoting further investments while upgrading aesthetically the urban landscape with a visually appealing and modern building that attracts new businesses and visitors, stimulating local economy. ‘The Wings’ has thus transformed an aging structure into a contemporary landmark, benefiting both its client and the wider community.
