The Vodno House is single family house located in the high-end neighborhoods on the Vodno hill. There were three leading principles throughout the design process:1.tComfort in everyday livingThe house is designed to meet the needs of the dynamic lifestyle of a modern family. It evolves around family life, offering spaces for family gatherings and entertainment, but also private suites to retreat. The programme itself is quite extensive and it unfolds across five distinct levels, gradually moving from technical floors, through common spaces, to intimate zones. Besides the usual living spaces it includes an indoor pool, fitness and spa, underground parking, guest apartment and wine cellar. It is not only these spaces that make it enjoyable, but it is all of the hidden amenities, utility spaces and maintenance systems that make everyday living easier and more comfortable. 2.tCity vistasBeing on a hill, the house overlooks the city, capturing city vistas through the large glass windows and merging the expansive living area with the urban panorama beyond. Adapting to the natural slope of the terrain, the house opens up with one more level towards the city through a large porch and a secluded backyard. Large terraces on both sides and a rooftop terrace offer panoramic view of the cityscape and the nature of the rising hill.3.tUnobtrusiveness It is a big house. With no intention of being intrusive to the surrounding neighborhood, the house is set back from the street with an entrance plateau designed to welcome you into the house. The entrance is on the side, leaving the front of the house pristine and simple. The upper floors are alternately pulled back or thrown out, disrupting the monolithic appearance. The architectural expression is simple – clean lines and cubic volumes, with the structural elements as the only decorative features. Aside its size, the exterior intends to be modest, with unpretentious materials and subtle palette. It is only when you get to the first floor of the house, the ‘piano nobile’, you get to see its grandeur – with the double height central space adorned with glass lantern, the spacious living space and panoramic views. It is spacious and luxurious, yet simple and modest.
