The aged 8-storey building of EYATH S.A. could not comply with the company’ s new operational requirements, facing a series of problems and malfunctions like inadequate structural behavior, deficient energy performance due to complete absence of insulation and sun protection and lacking accessibility. Therefore, the agenda was its complete reconstruction to be upgraded into a sustainable office building of high standards. So, the building was left bare naked except for the concrete structural frame, which was reinforced, before it was redesigned and rebuild following all the principles of energy sustainability and bioclimatic architecture. The central theme of the design was the translation of the architectural vocabulary of a 60’s glass building into a new and contemporary one. Furthermore, since the building has always been a point of reference for the community because of its prominent location, the result had to justify first the building itself and then the city and the community.
