U Durcov Art Residency

The U Durcov Artist Residency project in Poriadie addresses the preservation and restoration of a homestead in the Myjava Hills, transforming it for a new purpose. The design focuses on sustainable restoration, preserving the building’s original form, and adapting the space for its new role while maintaining historical integrity. The realization is an example of restoring a farmstead and carefully handling the original materials. The architects avoid exaggerated gestures or stylization, emphasizing the inherent qualities of the structure. Using proven materials and traditional craftsmanship techniques, the project avoids superficial historical replicas, resulting in a design that respects the historical context and the building’s origins. The homestead, in a dilapidated state before restoration, benefited from a collaboration between knowledgeable clients and an architectural team willing to deeply engage with the task and address multiple layers of the project.
