Project overview

The Pokleku Massacre House Museum in Gllogoc is a project that preserves and transforms the very house where the tragic massacre occurred. Rather than creating a new structure, the project respects and maintains the original building’s physical and emotional presence as an authentic witness to history. The architectural intervention carefully balances preservation with the introduction of curated exhibition spaces.

Project history

Originally a family home in the village of Poklek, the building was the site of a massacre during the Kosovo War and has since stood as a silent witness to this tragic event. For years, the structure remained largely untouched, its worn and damaged fabric conveying the weight of trauma and loss. Recognizing the importance of preserving its authenticity and historical integrity, the project undertook a sensitive conservation process. Minimal and precise interventions were made to maintain the building’s original fabric and spatial experience, while accommodating the necessary functions of a museum. Completed in 2024, the house museum now serves as a powerful site of memory and education, preserving the physical traces of the past while fostering ongoing reflection and dialogue.
