Project overview

The design emphasizes spatial clarity, flexibility, and openness, with public areas—hall, departure, and arrival lounges—arranged along the perimeter to frame views and maximize natural light. Operational and support functions are in a compact, two-level core wrapped in U-glass with varied transparency for program needs. Glass partitions define zones while preserving visual continuity. Materials like concrete, glass, and aluminum create a minimal, durable, and context-sensitive aesthetic.

Project history

This project is the winning entry in a 2024 competition organized for the planned expansion of a small regional airport, which currently lacks a terminal building. The expansion was initiated in response to the steady rise in tourism to Kakheti—Georgia’s leading wine-producing region—renowned for its rich cultural heritage and growing international appeal. As a major destination for wine and cultural tourism, Kakheti is experiencing increased demand for improved travel infrastructure. The new terminal aims to enhance passenger convenience and strengthen regional connectivity with the capital, as well as lay the groundwork for future international access. Currently, the project is undergoing value engineering and further development in collaboration with prospective contractors to optimize design, functionality, and implementation.
