Project overview

The project creates an attractive space for recreation, leisure, and sport in the area of the "Lubianka" Reservoir.
It fits harmoniously into the environment, using its scenic and physiographic qualities while leveling out its handicaps.
The created architecture has its own poetics.
The zones and forms of architecture are intelligently located in the structure. They fit into the existing escarpment and nature enclaves. They are expressive but unobtrusive.

Project history

The revitalization of the Lubianka Reservoir in Starachowice is one of the city’s most significant projects, aimed at restoring the site’s function as a modern recreational and tourist center. The project emerged from winning the SARP competition for the development of the area around the reservoir, with the PA.FORMAT studio winning I prize. The idea was to restore the lagoon and create attractive recreational, sports, and leisure zones that respect the landscape and natural values. Work began in early 2021. The investment included dredging the reservoir, constructing new piers, launching ramps, pedestrian and bicycle bridges, playing fields, playgrounds, outdoor gyms, and sanitary and catering infrastructure. Everything was designed with accessibility for the disabled in mind. The work was completed in April 2023 and become a landmark of the city, attracting residents and tourists from the region. In 2024, the investment won the title of Best Public Space in the Polish Landscape Poll
