Project overview

Hutspace, a 70 m² modular cabin near Kosovo's medieval Artana Castle, elegantly floats above steep terrain on minimal steel supports. Its lightweight prefabricated steel frame reduces environmental impact, while black corrugated metal cladding and insulated ventilated façades harmonize with the landscape. Interiors crafted from solid wood panels provide warmth and simplicity, embodying sustainable, sensitive architecture designed for remote, culturally significant locations.

Project history

Hutspace began with extensive research into sustainable building methods for steep terrain near Kosovo’s historic Artana Castle. Recognizing that traditional excavation methods would harm the natural landscape, the project focused on a modular, prefabricated steel solution to minimize environmental impact. A key turning point was collaboration with a local partner, who generously provided suitable mountainous land and financial support, enabling the realization of a sustainable prototype. The cabin’s innovative floating structure, fully fabricated off-site and rapidly assembled, protects the site’s ecological integrity and cultural significance. Hutspace now serves as a pioneering example of eco-sensitive design in the region, seamlessly harmonizing contemporary architecture, heritage, and nature.
