Project overview

This compact semi-detached residence in Limassol is an nZEB designed around a planted atrium that brings light, ventilation, and a sense of openness into a dense urban plot. Despite having no south-facing façade, the design ensures thermal comfort and daylight through passive strategies and efficient systems. The spatial program is organized around the atrium, balancing privacy and flow, while keeping construction costs efficient and sustainability central to the design vision.

Project history

The project began in 2021, when the clients approached our office with a request for a compact urban residence to coexist on a small plot with an existing home. Their priorities were clear: a private, bright, and sustainable house that maximizes natural light and minimizes energy use. Through a collaborative process, the design evolved into a semi-detached nZEB centered around a planted atrium. Despite the southern façade being obstructed, the house achieved exceptional energy performance through passive strategies. The clients were deeply engaged throughout, supporting bioclimatic approaches and welcoming innovation. Since its completion, the residence has been a model of compact sustainability, inspiring the community by proving that environmental design can thrive even in urban constraints. It now stands as a case study of how architecture can meet user needs, respect context, and set new standards for future living in dense Mediterranean cities.
