Project overview

Located in the heart of the new urban zone, where the industrial past meets the city’s dynamic future, this innovative bus station fits perfectly into the evolving landscape, bringing a new level of modernity and energy to Zalău. The architecture of the station is defined by the dynamic composition of two concrete slabs that frame sliding brick walls. A remarkable feature of the station is the integration of a tree into its design—a symbol of nature within the urban landscape.

Project history

In 1969, the Ceramic Products Factory was opened in Zalău, which very quickly became one of the most prolific local production units, with over 4.5 million bricks exiting the factory gates in a single year. In modern times, the factory also went through more complicated periods, but in 2014, after a series of investments in modernization, it was restarted and has been operating flawlessly ever since. In essence, it is a symbol of this city, and CEMACON’s history is closely intertwined with that of Zalău. The CEMACON bus station is not just a waiting area—it is a city landmark, an urban oasis. Enhanced by the transparency of the walls and the fluidity of the concrete slabs, it gives the impression of a permeable architectural object in motion. The mirrored ceiling highlights the materials and spatial dynamics, and at night, it lights up spectacularly, becoming a fascinating urban attraction.
