“Tabaci are craftsmen who engage in the chemical processing of leather, and their workshops are called tabhane. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there were around fifteen places with a developed craft of this kind. The presence of this craft was recorded in the first half of the 17th century during the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The exact year of construction cannot be specified, but it is assumed to have been built no later than the first half of the 17th century when the tanners’ guild had strengthened enough to acquire sufficient funds for the construction of such a facility, as was the case in several other Bosnian-Herzegovinian cities. Besides Visoko, tanners also built mosques in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar, and Tešanj. The Tabhane Mosque is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.Open access to books and educational materials will provide children and young people with opportunities for learning, exploration, and the development of reading habits. The open-air library will offer resources for the continuous education of adults, providing them access to books, literary works, and information supporting personal and professional development. The library space can also be a place where older community members can enjoy socializing, share their experiences, and participate in cultural events.”
