Project overview
Nestled in Episkopi, Limassol district, this residence boasts panoramic Kourion sea views, influencing its design orientation. Fair-faced concrete lends a modern, dynamic character, while thin slabs create a feather-light feel, elegantly defying concrete’s inherent heaviness. The interior seamlessly extends outwards through openings and concrete surfaces hugging the upper floor. Sharp lines prevail, accentuating the minimalist aesthetic. The ground floor houses open-plan living, dining, kitchen, and study areas, while upstairs hosts the master suite, additional bedrooms, and utility room. Simple materials like fair-faced concrete, grey flooring, and wood accents create a modern ambience. The covered terrace and pool integrate with the living area through large sliding windows, fostering indoor-outdoor connectivity. A strategically placed opening unifies the front terrace, living room, and rear garden, allowing natural light to flood the interior and seamlessly blending blue hues with verdant greenery. An amphitheatre-style deck on the front terrace offers a tranquil retreat for enjoying sunsets.
Project history
The client approached us in early 2019 with the idea of creating a new dwelling for their new family. The clients’ brief was for a two-story building with a pool, an open-plan kitchen and living area, and a yard. The plot site inclines to the north, lending the house a monumental elevation overlooking the stunning sea views and the ancient Kourion archaeological site. We have collaborated with landscapers to create a new nature-scape that not only offers privacy to the residence but also creates a new microclimate of flora, transforming the barren land into a biodiverse garden that coexists with the new dwelling in harmony. One of the most important aims of the project was to create a site and climatic-responsive architectural language that would aid in reducing reliance on mechanized temperature systems. The landscape and its accompanying architecture create a poetic interplay between nature and the geometries of our design, that not only frames the site’s beauty but also allows a comfortable interior atmosphere.
