Project overview
The shape of the house is mostly rectangular, with exception of the hightened main living area in the angular shape. This creates interesting tension and brings a needed quirk to the design. It allows the sun enter the space all day long.Orientation of the house is strategically aligned towards the south, maximizing solar energy gains for achieving passive house standard. This deliberate rotation subtly breaks the uniformity of the street’s row of houses. Materials of choice are all natural
Project history
The story of this house began in 2020. As is usually the case, we met and got to know the investor, visited his property, and discussed various possibilities and options. The first thing that came up in the initial meeting was an ecological house, so the choice fell on a wooden house. The client wanted a technologically advanced yet simple house and had high demands for design and functionality. Therefore, we chose the path of simplicity, practicality, functionality, and opted for clear shapes, the play of light, and natural materials. The foundation of this house was laid in 2022, with construction completed in 2023. CLT panels as the primary building material underscore the project’s commitment to sustainable and innovative construction techniques. Panels were fabricated to a high precision in a controlled factory environment by CNC machinery. Afterwards the panels were transported to the site and assembled, by the carpenters that we already knew from other sites. For us – architects, this precision is crucial as it ensures that the final construction aligns perfectly with the original design.
