Project overview
The new swimming pool complex in Češča vas is located near an existing velodrome. To maintain spatial relationships, the swimming pool complex takes advantage of the sloping terrain by positioning itself low and avoiding becoming a dominant feature. Its unobtrusive presence is achieved through a low, floating roof that allows the surrounding landscape to flow over the building. Inside, abundant natural light creates the impression that the roof volume floats above the pool surface. The total cost of the investment is EUR 7,000,000.
Project history
In 2020, a public competition for a new swimming pool was announced by the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia and the Municipality of Novo mesto. The Češča Vas Pool Complex project won first place in the open competition. Construction began at the beginning of 2021, and the building received a permit for use in June 2023. The official opening was in September 2023.The Municipality of Novo mesto aims to promote swimming culture and develop new recreational programs. The complex, combined with the velodrome and other sports areas, is designated as an Olympic sports center. It includes two indoor pools and associated sports areas, with plans for an outdoor Olympic pool in the second phase. The project aims to provide professional athletes with training facilities and offer the local population a place for active, healthy, and relaxing leisure time. The design considers the proximity of the Velodrome, a local landmark. The facility caters to all social groups, including professional athletes, children, the elderly, and the physically challenged, promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical activity for all ages.
