The “Bioclimatic Residence in Limassol” project aimed to create a net-zero energy building (nZEB) that harmonizes with its natural surroundings while prioritizing user comfort. Situated on a small plot in Limassol, the design maximized functionality and energy efficiency by strategically positioning spaces to optimize natural light and thermal conditions. The distinctive “Z” shaped form serves as both a passive sun protection system and a unifying element, seamlessly integrating the covered parking area with the main building volume. Interior spaces were carefully organized into communal and private areas, with materiality reflecting the modernist principle of “form follows function.” The design ethos emphasized simplicity, utilizing exposed concrete, wood surfaces, and neutral colors to create a minimalist aesthetic. Bioclimatic strategies, such as natural cross ventilation, thermal insulation, and solar chimney effect, were implemented to minimize energy consumption and enhance comfort. Combined with high-performance HVAC systems and a photovoltaic system, the project achieved a zero-energy balance, exemplifying the successful integration of sustainable design principles into architectural practice.
