Project overview
Our intention was to use the typology of the local traditional residential building as a base for the design, respecting the old model, and reinterpreting it to create a 21st century family home. We, as well as the client, prefered simple and elegant architectural solutions in addition to a clean design with the use of natural resources. With the use of basalt tuff we would reach back and pay respect to the rustic, stacked basalt stone walls, which are among the typical local building materials.
Project history
It was the owner’s old dream to move to the Balaton highlands. Previously, the client bought a plot of land on the outskirts of Paloznak and the building permission plans were prepared, but in the end we had to abandon it due to regulatory reasons. /2013-2014/After that, the client involved us in the site selection process and we found this lot. The planning took place with minor interruptions between 2015-18. The construction was between 2020-21. Almost 2 years passed between the design and the implementation, which was reflected in the costs. A local general contractor undertook the building construction. The carpenter work of the building with the built-in furnitures, was done by a separate subcontractor who worked based on our furniture plans. We cross-checked the plans with the regional chief architect and the neighbors. The chief architect supported the work, but requested modifications to the roofing: he did not support gray tiled roof. The stacking of the Tihany stone, the mass and scale of the house specifically link the building to the place, Tihany. Unfortunately, due to financial reasons, the stacked stone fence could not be contructed.
