Project overview
After reviewing several options, the final concept emerged, which focused on the maximal preservation and renovation of the two villas, with one free-flowing glass connecting piece inserted between them. Stepping into the transparent space bathing in natural light the visitor experiences the opportunities and freedom of contemporary architecture, contrasting the inclosed character of the renovated villas.
Project history
There are houses whose stories are born under extraordinary, so to speak, favorable celestial constellations. This story is one of them. The Szőllősi-Nemes couple returned after several decades of living in France with their unique collection of contemporary art, which they intended for public display. To house the collections the city of Balatonfüred offered two adjacent 19c villa-scale buildings. Connecting and unifying the two buildings into one entity was an especially challenging task in the city’s historic centre.
