Over 75 teams of architects from 16 countries in Central and Southeastern Europe, gathered in Athens, will wait full of hope for the verdict of a prestigious jury panel, who will decide whose project is the best and will be declared The Overall Winner.
SHARE Architecture Awards will take place at the Athens Conservatoire (this will happen on October 7th and 8th), in the over 150-year-old building of the institution where most of Greece’s world-renowned musical personalities graduated, including great celebrities like Maria Callas and Mikis Theodorakis.
And there will be more than just one winner, as six more projects will be awarded in distinct categories, from cultural, educational, healthcare, and commercial architecture works, to residential or city planning.
But what will make the event in Athens a true spectacle of competitive spirit, which is only natural for the city that gave us the Olympics, is that each team of architects will present their project live, both in front of the jury and the audience.
Speaking of the jury, the list is remarkable. Starting with the jury president, Carol Ross Barney, recipient of the 2023 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal, and Martha Thorne, former executive director of the Pritzker Prize, the list continues with great names of international architecture community like Francois Valentiny, Fuensanta Nieto, Kerem Yazgan, Giuseppe Farris, Kamran Afshar Naderi, Pepe Gascon, Diogo Brito, Fokke Moerel, Asaaf Kimmel, Peter Murray, Greta Tresserra, Manuela Gatto, Roberto Beraldo, and Johannes Baar Baarenfels.
It’s an elite jury that guarantees the work of the over 75 competitors is evaluated to the highest standards.
However, the valuable feedback from such a jury panel is just one of the benefits competitors will enjoy. Others are the visibility within the global architecture community, opportunities for networking, new business, and collaborations. And, not least, the media and public exposure they will gain, as long as, following the event, the shortlisted and winning projects will be showcased in a traveling exhibition across Europe.
Finally, the category winners and the overall winner will be announced at a Gala Awards Ceremony, a momentous occasion celebrating contemporary architecture from Central and Southeast Europe.
In the last 30 years, the architectural landscape in this part of Europe has seen a remarkable transformation. The region has evolved from Soviet-era modernism to a period of bold experimentation and innovation, reflecting a rich blend of local identity and global influences.
We want to celebrate it, and that`s why the SHARE Architecture Awards exist.
