Project history
The restoration of Ugron Castle began with the ambition to rescue a monument that had stood abandoned and heavily looted since 1990. Initially, the extent of deterioration raised the question of whether restoration was still possible. Extensive archival research, archaeological excavations and building investigations revealed an exceptional amount of surviving historic fabric, allowing the project to focus on authentic restoration rather than reconstruction. The client supported a research-driven approach that balanced heritage conservation with contemporary use, transforming the estate into a venue for accommodation, cultural events and tourism. Beyond the castle itself, the project includes the rehabilitation of the historic English park and the recreation of the Renaissance garden. Today, the former ruin has become a landmark and one of the region’s most significant cultural and tourist destinations.
