Stack Effect House is an nZEB residence on a compact urban half-plot in Limassol. The project explores contemporary Mediterranean living through the seamless integration of interior and exterior spaces, passive environmental design, and applied research. Organised around a planted courtyard, it combines spatial openness, privacy, and stack-effect ventilation, demonstrating how architectural quality and environmental performance can coexist.

Project history
The project originated from a client’s request for a contemporary family home on a compact urban half-plot in Limassol, balancing openness, privacy, and high environmental performance. From the outset, the brief called for generous, light-filled living spaces that would maintain a strong connection with outdoor life despite the site’s constraints. The design process transformed these limitations into opportunities through a carefully organised spatial sequence centred on a planted courtyard, allowing the communal areas to unfold around a mature olive tree while enhancing daylight, natural ventilation, and everyday living. Completed in 2025, the residence has exceeded the clients’ expectations by providing a comfortable, energy-efficient home where architecture and climate work together naturally. The project also demonstrates how research-driven residential design can enrich the quality of urban housing in Mediterranean cities.
