The project began from the client’s desire to create a contemporary home with a strong material identity, low maintenance and long-term durability. From the first discussions, the focus was placed on natural materials, energy efficiency and a façade system capable of aging beautifully over time.
The architectural concept was developed around a fully ventilated envelope combining natural timber with yakisugi — the traditional Japanese technique of controlled wood charring. Beyond aesthetics, the solution was selected for its resistance to moisture, UV exposure and biological degradation.
Throughout the design process, special attention was given to façade detailing, recessed openings and the relationship between materials, light and shadow. The house was designed as an nZEB dwelling, integrating high-performance insulation, controlled ventilation and carefully optimized glazing areas.
