Project overview

Located in Tbilisi, Georgia, there is three story hotel (25 Rooms) with additional attic. The site map is situated on the steep cliffside of historic Metekhi sttlement and it overlooks to river Mtkvari. Cladding materials are chosen according to local context and historical values, which are: brick, brick tiles, wooden shutters, and metal grilles. The facades facing the Mtkvari River form a unified and dynamic composition, aimed at preserving the dynamic character of the historical context;.

Project history

Based on historical research, it was established that the area was continuously developing from 19th century. The structures located here creates an interesting dynamic in relation to the expressive verticality of the cliffside. According to historical context understanding and overal metekhi settlement surroundings, it was obvious, that the new development, should not appear massive and should avoid creating a continuous wall effect with a single solid volume. Also, the clients main purpose was to create hotel architectural shape, which would interact/dialogue in neighbourhood context and would emphasize riverside and cliffside contours. The site map is in the heart of the old tbilisi area, which is also under city heritage regulations and restrictions. The plot area was empty untill 2023 and now when you look at photos and old panoramic views it is visible that the Jorbenadze street and its facade from riverside Mtkvari (Street facade) was unfinished with this empty plot.
