Project overview

In the historical area of the former municipal water reservoir there are 3 water reservoirs dating from 1874, 1894, and 1917. These high-quality, technical buildings are uniquely accumulated in one area.The location is characterised by open lawn areas, which are above the water tanks. One of reconstruction’s main underlying concepts was to open the reservoirs to the public, but with a minimum of newly built structures, either within the reservoirs themselves, or in the park above. 6,000,000 €

Project history

designing : january 2021 – september 2022 realization : march 2022 – december 2023 The project has opened an exceptional piece of engineering heritage to the public—a complex of three historic water tanks from different periods, each representing a distinct structural and architectural approach. The site was opened to the public, and a park was created above the water towers to ensure the area’s accessibility. The design of this tranquil park also respects the character of the site and its proximity to the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute. The project was funded by the City of Brno, which, thanks to this revitalization, gained a new tourist destination as well as an attractive public space for its residents and visitors.
