Project overview

This project honours the historical value of a residence by Architect Alberto La Ferla (1898–1942). The contemporary intervention embraces tradition and modernism, inviting a dialogue between past and present. Reversible design choices preserve the original fabric, while bespoke furniture and curated materials enhance each space. The flooring, in particular, offered a unique canvas for experimenting with marble shapes and textures.

Project history

Olivia began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a brief focused on achieving a delicate balance between old and new—honouring the home’s history while embracing the future memories it would hold. The vision was to create a family home that respected the original elements while boldly embracing contemporary and timeless liveability. The process commenced with the design concept stage, followed by a planning application submitted later that year. Construction began once approval was granted, taking two years to complete. This project had a lasting impact on the community, as the house formerly operated as a doctor’s office, welcoming many locals through its doors. Preserving its recognisable character was essential to maintaining a sense of familiarity and connection.
