Lake 11 Residential District originated from the client’s vision to regenerate an 8-hectare site on Budapest’s southern edge where construction had remained unfinished for more than two decades. Rather than continuing a conventional suburban model, the ambition was to create a sustainable residential district integrating compact urban living with nature. A comprehensive masterplan established a coherent vision for the entire development, implemented in phases by multiple architectural teams. As the first completed phase, the project delivers 175 homes around landscaped public spaces, demonstrating the principles that will guide the wider district. It has transformed a dormant site into a vibrant community, improving quality of life through generous housing, biodiversity, pedestrian-focused public spaces, and fossil fuel-free geothermal energy, while establishing a benchmark for environmentally responsible residential development in Budapest.
