Project overview

Located in the historic village of Lăzarea, the kindergarten responds to its exceptional cultural setting by preserving three mature trees and respecting the relationship with the nearby castle, monastery, and church. A fragmented single-storey volume, inspired by local architecture, uses traditional materials and colors to reinterpret regional heritage while creating safe, nature-oriented spaces that encourage outdoor learning and play.

Project history

The Municipality of Lăzarea initiated the project to create a contemporary kindergarten that would respond to the needs of the growing community while respecting the village’s exceptional historic and cultural context. From the outset, the client emphasized the importance of preserving the identity of the place, defined by the nearby Lázár Castle, the Franciscan Monastery, the Roman Catholic Church, and the existing mature trees on the site. The design process focused on integrating the new building into this sensitive environment through a low-scale, fragmented volume inspired by traditional architecture and local craftsmanship. Completed as a child-centered educational facility, the kindergarten provides safe indoor and outdoor learning spaces while reinforcing the cultural landscape of Lăzarea. The project strengthens community identity, preserves local values, and introduces children to the architectural and natural heritage of their village from an early age.
