The expansion of Cluj-Napoca International Airport reimagines the terminal as a contemporary civic landmark and gateway to the city. A restrained architectural language unifies the existing building and its extension, balancing clarity, rhythm, and light. Through durable materials, generous daylight, and carefully proportioned spaces, the project creates a calm, memorable passenger experience, while demonstrating that architectural quality can emerge from disciplined, economical design.

Project history

Cluj-Napoca International Airport commissioned the project in response to sustained passenger growth and the need to expand capacity without disrupting daily operations. Beyond meeting functional demands, the client sought a terminal that would express the city’s ambition and strengthen its identity as a regional and international gateway. Through close collaboration with the airport authority, engineers, and contractors, the architects developed a design that balances operational continuity with architectural clarity. The completed terminal has increased passenger comfort, enhanced the overall travel experience, and created a distinctive gateway that reflects Cluj-Napoca’s contemporary identity.
