Project overview

The UNIC Medical School transforms the former Olympic Airways data centre into Greece’s first private medical university through adaptive reuse. Completed in under 20 months, the LEED-certified retrofit preserves and strengthens the existing structure while creating flexible teaching, clinical, laboratory and social spaces. The project delivers a cost-efficient, sustainable solution that maximizes the value of the existing building while meeting contemporary educational needs with a 22M budget.

Project history

UNIC sought to establish the first private medical university in Greece while demonstrating the value of adaptive reuse within the emerging Ellinikon district. Rather than demolish the former Olympic Airways data centre, the client chose to transform it into a contemporary academic campus, preserving its structural framework and reducing environmental impact. From project initiation to operation, the development was completed in less than 20 months, enabling the Medical School to open on schedule. The new campus delivers flexible teaching spaces, clinical simulation facilities, laboratories, a library and student amenities that support modern medical education. As one of the first completed projects bordering The Ellinikon Development, it has become a catalyst for regeneration, extending the life of a significant building, strengthening the area’s educational identity and creating lasting value for students, faculty and the wider medical and science community.
