The abandoned tram depot is a historically significant site embedded in Almaty’s collective memory. The proposal transforms it by introducing an elevated hanging garden above a structural platform, creating a new urban oasis in the city centre. Beneath the park, the existing depot buildings and tram tracks are preserved and adapted to house the Tram Museum alongside cultural, commercial, and entertainment spaces. Historic tramcars are integrated into the architecture, while Almaty’s first tram returns to service within the complex. The publicly accessible rooftop park covers 3.5 hectares above approximately 40,000 m² of naturally daylit interior space. The platform accommodates waterproofing and landscape infrastructure, while all parking is located underground, preserving the ground level for people, nature, and public life.
