Project overview

The project transforms an inactive building in central Nicosia into a contemporary Health Centre. Through reuse, the proposal reactivates an existing urban asset and introduces a new public function into the city. The design combines the openness of the Pharmacy with the privacy of the Clinic, creating a unified architectural identity that supports healthcare, trust, and everyday human interaction.

Project history
The architects were invited to design a new healthcare project within an existing building in the centre of Nicosia. The proposal focuses on the reuse and transformation of an inactive commercial property into a contemporary Health Centre, combining a Pharmacy and a Clinic under one architectural identity. The design brings together two different but complementary uses: a Pharmacy and a Clinic. Each function has its own spatial and operational character. The Pharmacy is more open and extroverted, with frequent public movement and direct contact with the street. The Clinic, on the other hand, is more private and introverted, requiring a calmer and more controlled environment for examination and care. The architectural challenge was to combine these two different functions into one coherent public presence. The proposal achieves this through a unified façade and a clear interior organization, balancing openness and privacy, commercial activity and medical care.
