Confronting a challenging 115-meter elevation drop, Ecophilia Ayvalık originated from a critical desire to harmonize dense hospitality programming with sensitive natural topography. Instead of imposing a rigid grid, the architects adopted an experimental approach, following the site contours to create terraced structures with green roofs that seamlessly merge into the hillside. This original response provides tremendous environmental value by minimizing land disruption. Furthermore, the project adds profound social value to the community. The central “Ecophilic Spine” fosters interaction through a traditional market promoting local production, a permaculture educational space, and dedicated workshops for yoga, fragrance, and olive oil tasting. By deeply engaging both locals and tourists, this ecophilic complex poses new questions about sustainable tourism, offering an immersive, landscape-driven living experience.
