The Astronomical Park on Mount Aipos is conceived as a place where observation becomes knowledge and knowledge becomes culture. Inspired by Plato's Timaeus, the design interprets the Platonic solids as the geometric foundations of the cosmos. The tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, and icosahedron accommodate the park's main functions, while the dodecahedron—the symbol of the universe and quintessence—forms the modular framework that organizes the entire complex.

Project history

In December 2024, the Chios Amateur Astronomers Association, the Municipality of Chios, the National Observatory of Athens, and the Region of North Aegean signed a Programmatic Agreement for the development of the Astronomical Park on Mount Aipos, Chios. The initiative is carried out under the auspices of the Academy of Athens. Following this agreement, the Municipality of Chios commissioned Mor Architects to prepare the Master Plan for the Astronomical Park, providing a comprehensive vision for the overall development of the project, including its individual facilities and the supporting infrastructure required for their implementation. The Master Plan has been completed, formally accepted by the Municipality of Chios, and presented to the relevant public authorities and stakeholders. The project successfully completed the statutory approval process, including the required urban planning procedures and the Environmental Impact Assessment.
