Project overview

Regenerative design measures include bioclimatic elements: an inner courtyard with the south façade shaded by the terrace console, and the west façade optimally shaded by a vertical Corian screen and an ivy green sunshade. A photovoltaic system was proposed in 2013, as the project’s renewable-energy ambition. Other intended but lost measures were the solar chimney, the extensive green roof (replaced by an artificial one) and the inner courtyard water basin, which would have enhanced microclimate

Project history
As part of the regenerative design measures, a photovoltaic system was proposed in the early phase of the building’s development, in 2013, when photovoltaic technology was not yet mature enough to support its financing. Phase I — 2013: first concept sketch for an extended site; Phase II — starting in 2014: final biophilic design of the building, initially as a concept sketch; Phase III — starting in 2017, interior design completed in 2024: building execution; Phase IV — future: unlocking the building’s potential, possibly recovering measures that were lost but are still feasible, and inspiring other relevant ones. The regenerative concept strongly amplified the beneficiaries’ vision and support, as well as the involvement of contractors, designers, and all actors, even if not fully realised. This long process, till 2024 completion, turned the project into a common regenerative effort almost Baukultur‑level.
