Project overview

Designed for two related families on a 607 sqm plot in Paralimni, Cyprus, this project rethinks the semi-detached holiday home model. The brief required two independent summer residences with privacy, outdoor amenities, and opportunities for shared living. The homes are arranged around a central courtyard that serves as entrance, communal gathering space, and climatic buffer. Private screened terraces, a pool, and native landscaping enhance comfort, sustainability, and seasonal cohabitation.

Project history

The project originated from a shared aspiration of two related families to continue spending their summers together while maintaining the independence and privacy of separate holiday homes. After acquiring a 607 sqm plot in Paralimni, the clients sought two residences that could support both communal and individual living. During the early design stages, the architects proposed departing from the conventional semi-detached model and organizing the homes around a shared central courtyard. The clients embraced this concept, recognizing its ability to strengthen family bonds while preserving autonomy.Inspired by Cypriot vernacular architecture, the courtyard became the social and climatic heart of the project. Since completion, the houses have enabled seasonal cohabitation across generations, balancing collective gathering with individual retreat and offering a contemporary interpretation of shared living rooted in local traditions.
