Project overview

The project included the restauration and extension of a listed former school building from 1884 to create an office and residential building, a public park with an underground parking.

Project history

The concept, which started in 2013, is based on the preservation of the historic building, with a high level of environmental awareness and cost-effectiveness. The simple, unified façade organisation, the façade materials continue the logic of the old building, while the connection between the old and the new part along the main entrance axis creates exciting spaces, multifunctional courtyards and visual connections. The building’s two-layered lamellar façade not only keeps the functions in harmony, but also allows a view of the former western façade from different angles, while its compactness blends in with the old building. A Turkish canal-like structure found during the construction work has been preserved and displayed in the underground car park. The building was constructed with heat pump energy supply and the new part of the building with a green roof.
