Project overview

A courtyard transformation in K-District, Belgrade, reimagines a semi-private residential space as a year-round outdoor co-working hub for an IT company and the wider community. The design integrates collaborative and individual workspaces, meeting areas, and relaxation zones. Four canopy structures mitigate solar exposure and enable all-weather use. Natural materials and flexible furniture align with the existing landscape, enhancing usability, comfort, and social interaction.

Project history
The project originated from the client’s need to extend the workplace beyond the office, creating a flexible outdoor environment for work, meetings, and rest. Located in a semi-private courtyard shared by residents and visitors, the site had strong spatial and social potential but lacked functional diversity and climate comfort. Our team developed a concept focused on communication, collaboration, and wellbeing, introducing a new typology of outdoor workspace. In collaboration with MainArch, we advanced the project through design documentation and into implementation, where we continue architectural supervision.Key challenges included excessive sun exposure and the openness of the site. These were addressed through a system of canopies with integrated greenery, improving microclimate and usability. The completed project enhances daily work routines, fosters community interaction, and activates the courtyard as a shared social and productive space.
